History The U shape travel pillow has been around for many years. There are literarily hundreds of U shape products made with various fillers such as foam, seeds, cotton, synthetic fibers and inflated with air. Other than the construction materials every one of them has a U shape and fit all the way around the neck like a horsecollar. There is a lot of information available on how to select horseshoe shape pillows including price, size, convenience to use, ability to clean and so on. Problem All U shape pillows have the same problem. They are bulky and do not support the head at the head. They wrap around the neck and support the head indirectly by contact through the cheek and jaw. Think about it, if you want to prevent your head from tilting about while sleeping, why would you wrap a pillow around your neck? Before a neck pillow can support the head, the head has to tilt far enough to one side to contact the lower portion of the head, straining the neck. And since U shape pillows fit around the neck they prevent the head from resting comfortably against the seat back. Solution All of these deficiencies are eliminated
